It is important to remember that all children transported in a Kelty child carrier must be capable of holding their head upright and sit up by themselves. In general, a child over six-months old can meet this requirement, but if in doubt consult a doctor.

Kelty offers two main types of child carriers. The Frame Carrier series caters to avid backpackers and hikers for outdoor use. The Transit Carrier is for active parents in a more urban environment, though it can handle some light hiking activities.

Kelty K.I.D.S. FC 3.0

Recommended to carry up to 50 pounds, the top-of-the-line carrier uses a unique five-point adjustable child's harness anchored to the frame with a central car-like tension system.

The molded back panel has a sliding torso adjustment to allow parents to find the best fit and the reclining cockpit is removable and washable for easy care.

To protect youngsters from sunburn and wayward branches, the Carrier 3.0 model comes with a removable hood. And there is plenty of under the seat storage space, plus a removable daypack, for diapers, wipes, food, toys and clothes.

Easy to put on and retain balance, experienced users employed the carrier for airport and house chore duty. The high and low seat positions were favorable for parents to position kids with a view.

And the auto-kickstand assisted in unloading the precious cargo without being wobbly. Users did complain about the storage area interfering with kid's leg room and its low frame weight load.

Others noted that kids could play with the load-lifter buckles for a quick shock drop of weight on your shoulders. And the torso length pull-out pin adjustment can work free and drop a notch unexpectedly.

The urban counterpart to the more rugged Frame Carrier, the Transit Carrier series is perfect for a hands-free travel option for carrying your child in airports, museums, parks and about town.

Without a frame to provide better support for hiking activities, these packs allow kids to rest their tired travel legs for rides with mom or dad. The high quality construction combines with a sliding torso component to find the right balance for a sturdy fit.
Kelty TC 3.0 Child Carrier

A padded frame and breathable fabric add comfort, while the custom fit leg straps, seat adjustments and five-point security harness make the carrier an ideal travel companion.

The lightweight aluminum internal frame supports up to 40 pounds and a sun-rain hood protects your child from harsh weather. A zip-off diaper bag holds enough stuff for a day and fits under a plane seat when you stow away the pack overhead.

When using the sunshade, kids tend to crane their neck to peak from the side and fall asleep with their heads limp to the side. For some users there are not enough pockets for organizing bottles and other items and the diaper bag is too small for a full day out.
