Gregory Z55
(Hiking, Light Backpacking, Multiday Hikes - 3050 to 3660ci/50,55,60L)

For a lighter pack that carries a load to last a few days on the trail, the Z55 provides excellent comfort and just enough capacity. A top loader with side access, the Jetstream LTS suspension combines a mesh back panel and a flexible Auto-Fit harness for better support. Many users recommended a max load of 35 pounds for the best performance.

The curved design of these Gregory packs allows space between your back and the main compartment holds the essentials with lots of options for strapping gear on the outside too.

A tough and durable pack that withstands rough treatment, users put the pack through "serious hell" and noted that you "will not find a better built, longer lasting pack."

Not considered an ultralight pack, the Z55 compresses down well for day use activities and minimalist hikers that want comfort too. The large front bucket pocket stashes bulky gear for easy access and a zippered front pocket provides weatherproof storage.

Recognized by National Geographic Adventure as a winner of their Best Outdoor Gear Award in 2008.

The main complaint regards stuffing a sleeping bag in the bottom without middle or bottom access points. Some preferred more pockets for organizing and separating gear and more padding for shoulder straps.

Gregory Jade 50

Named previously as the "Best All-Around Weekend Pack" by Backpacker Magazine Gear Guide, the Jade 50 combines a contoured hipbelt with a curved mesh back panel set off your back for better ventilation.

Made to fit a woman's shape, the Jetstream LTS suspension transfers the weight load into the lumbar region to remain comfortable on your shoulders.

A lightweight pack with less bulk, access the main compartment from the top or the convenient front zip panel to reach inside for gear. A front bucket pocket expands to hold more gear with quick access. A smaller zippered pocket on the front is handy for outside access too. (This may be a problem if buying for travel abroad).

Without torso adjustments and a sewed in hipbelt, the Jade 50 either fits well or not at all. And some users disliked the thinner straps and waistbelt as compared to the Gregory Deva series that handles heavier loads better.

Gregory Z35

A top loading pack with additional reach in access from a zippered front, the Z35 provides a midrange solution for capacity and comfort for day hiking.

By keeping weight on the hips and off the back, the lighter Jetstream DTS suspension provides outstanding comfort from the start without digging in.

Thick padding on the hipbelt adds some extra weight but improves the overall comfort level to carrying recommended loads up to 30 pounds. Plus the mesh back panel allows good airflow to wick away moisture.

For some users the curved design cuts into the interior packing space and for hikers with long torsos, the Z35 may not be the best choice of the Gregory packs available. Overnight trips that require heavy gear may also require a bigger pack.

A more expensive option, the Z35 combines the versatility of a daypack with the features of a larger pack.

Gregory Jade 35
(Day Hikes, Light Hiking - 2074 to 2196ci/34,36L)

Designed for women, the Jade 35 daypack features all the comfort and performance required for day treks in the wilderness. Supported by the Jetstream DTS suspension that keeps weight on your hips, not your shoulders, it only takes a few adjustments to find a proper fit.
Gregory Women's Jade 30

A top loader, there is also clever access to the main compartment from the front zippered panel and a zip pocket on the front for quick and dry storage.

Compression straps tighten the pack for lighter loads and the well padded harness provides more comfort and prevents shoulder slippage, with an adjustable chest clip for more stability.

Better equipped for day hikes than for using as a book bag due to the curved back panel that cuts into the main compartment and makes it difficult to retrieve items. So flat binders and books are not suitable.

Using three-liter bladders may also dent your storage space too.

The pack stays snug against your back with internal compression and easy access straps allow on-the-fly adjustments with the pack on.

Bulky gear stashes away in a zippered expandable front mesh pocket and other options include two side mesh pockets, a front pocket with organizer, a media pocket and two stretch-mesh waistbelt zip pockets.

While most users liked the size, others complained that it was too small, too narrow and hard to put a 15" laptop inside.
